how do I replace my network card in my dell inspiron 531 desktop?

My computer says that my network card in not working or not available. So I want to replace it but I am not sure how to do this or where it goes. Can someone please help me.

the Network interface card is either a plugged into your motherboard if you are wireless, if not it is an RJ45 socket built into you motherboard, this connection should be a firm snug fit. Go into control panel >internet connections and see if you have a LAN connection, you may need to troubleshoot, see any red x's through connections? basically if you do you have a globe (internet) connecting to NIC(network interface card) connecting to PC. If it is built in and faulty you can reinstall the drives to see if that rectifies the problem? Or if you have a spare slot on your mother board, you can purchase another NIC(802.11g/n protocol) and plug it in, it may come with disc and drives, make sure it is recognised in BIOS,(disable faulty one) install the drives, plug in you ehternet cable and you should be in business, hopfully, if your wireless, sme sor of NIC but an aerial as well? You can also get USB ones but bare in mine the size of your PSU and how many USB devices are plugged in as this can cause power prolems if your PSU is of low wattage?
